Adviser has high hopes for SVSU Cardinal Formula Racing in competition
The Saginaw Valley State University Cardinal Formula Racing team will race "one of the most well-developed vehicles" in the accomplished program's history when it faces off against international competition. Brooks Byam, SVSU professor of mechanical engineering and the team's faculty adviser since 1998, has high hopes for No. 73 -- the name of this year's student-built Indy-style vehicle -- on the eve of an annual competition.

SVSU senior Stephanie Marr chosen for teaching program in Colombia
After receiving her bachelor's degree from Saginaw Valley State University in May, Stephanie Marr plans to combine those two passions by teaching English in other countries. Her first stop in June is Colombia, as she has been chosen for the English Teaching Fellowship by Heart for Change, an organization that brings English teachers to Colombia.

SVSU students to present project at annual Science and Engineering Symposium
The symposium will take place Friday, April 24, with public poster sessions from 10 a.m. to noon in SVSU's Pioneer Hall.The symposium will feature projects from 118 students with majors in STEM fields such as biology, chemistry, computer science, electrical and mechanical engineering, and mathematics. As part of the approval process, the students were required to meet program eligibility criteria. This includes collaboration with a SVSU Career Services advisor to develop a professional resume and cover letter. This may also involve additional training in the skills necessary to successfully transition from the classroom to the workplace.

Moot court team finishes national tourney with best performance in SVSU program's history
Four Saginaw Valley State University students competing together on two teams finished in 21st and 59th place, respectively, out of 80 teams competing in the American Collegiate Moot Court Association national tournament.
The competition was Friday and Saturday, Jan. 16-17, in Miami.
"This was our best year at nationals, and both teams received a lot of positive comments for their professionalism and their behavior," said Julie Keil, the moot court team's advisor and an SVSU assistant professor

Forty-two Saginaw Valley State University honors students presented a poster session Friday, Dec. 5.
Honors students organized into 12 groups, each researching topics such as genetics, medicine, psychological disorders and visual literacy. Then each group presented their findings during a public hallway poster session.

28 SVSU mechanical engineering students featured in senior design symposium
Nine projects put together by 28 Saginaw Valley State University students will be on display during the mechanical engineering senior design symposium Friday, Dec. 5 in Pioneer Hall.
All mechanical engineering students are required to have a company sponsor their project and must complete a working prototype in order to graduate.

SVSU students qualify for national moot court tourney
In a moot court competition, students act as attorneys in teams of two. They make arguments to a panel of judges by drawing from constitutional law and Supreme Court cases. Judges then decide winners based on public speaking ability, knowledge of cases and of law, and the ability to answer questions.

SVSU residential life student leaders nab regional awards
Fifteen Saginaw Valley State University residential life student leaders received two awards while representing SVSU at the 2013 Great Lakes Association of College and University Residence Halls Conference.
The group attended leadership development sessions and networked with peers from Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ontario. Michigan State University hosted the conference November 22-24.
